Transform raw news data into compelling visual stories. Design dynamic, interactive, or automated infographics that make complex information accessible and engaging. Explore creative ways to present trends, comparisons, and insights in visually appealing formats.
Discover how interest in different topics evolves over time. Analyze historical news data to uncover patterns, correlations, and unexpected connections across publications and subjects. Identify emerging trends, shifts in public discourse, or evolving narratives in the media.
Summarize vast amounts of information into concise, insightful overviews. Enhance news data by integrating external sources to provide richer context and deeper analysis. Present key findings in diverse formats—text, audio, video, or interactive summaries. Explore intelligent categorization and clustering of news articles.
Anticipate future trends by analyzing past news cycles. Detect anomalies, sudden spikes, or unusual activity in the news and turn them into meaningful predictions or insights. For example, identify potential breaking news, market shifts, or societal changes based on real-time data patterns.
Detect and analyze the spread of misinformation, fake news, and propaganda. Identify unreliable sources, track how misleading narratives propagate, and develop tools to help users recognize and avoid deceptive content. Explore ways to flag, verify, or counter misinformation effectively.
Help users navigate the overwhelming flood of news by delivering the most relevant content quickly and efficiently. Develop intelligent recommendation systems that personalize article suggestions based on user interests. Enable seamless cross-publication discovery by finding the best coverage of a topic from multiple sources.
Uncover the most influential news sources on specific topics. Identify key players in media coverage—publications that break news first or shape the narrative. Analyze publication trends to understand how different sources cover the same story and which voices dominate the conversation.
An open-ended challenge! News articles contain a wealth of valuable data that could help online investigative journalists. Your task is to identify key insights and develop a tool that will help journalists in their work. Be creative - what would make their work more effective and impactful?
2 to 5 participants per team. Individuals can apply, and we reserve the right to assign them to a team. Pre-formed teams will remain as registered—no additional members will be added, regardless of team size. Note for participants registering as a team: each team member must register individually with their email, team name, etc.
Your own computers. Optional: sleeping bags – a designated room will be available for naps.
On Saturday afternoon, March 1, teams will be asked to upload their projects for the judges to evaluate. Each team will also prepare a short presentation of their project and present it to the jury. The jury will evaluate the projects according to three criteria:
Your final presentations to the jury must be in English and all materials that will be part of the project (presentation slides, source code, documentation) must be written in English, but of course Czech/Slovak participants can use Czech/Slovak among themselves.
Free food & drinks during the whole hackathon. All participants will receive a Newsmatics Hackathon T-shirt.
